https://vimeo.com/1043106089 This month’s Live Zoom guest is Ninian Nijhuis. Ninian holds a Research Master in Religious Studies (University of Amsterdam); a BA in Law and an LL.M. in International Public Law (University of Utrecht). Her main focus is on Western Esotericism and her key fields of interest are Jungian psychology, sidereal astrology, mysticism, spirituality and its connections to science. Additionally, she is Head of Social Media at the Centre for History of Hermetic Philosophy and Related Currents (HHP Centre) and the University of Amsterdam.
Ninian joins me to talk about Sidereal Astrology, how it differs from the more well-known method known in the West as “Tropical” Astrology, and then we delve into natal charts. Natal charts are a ‘snapshot’ of the heavens on the day of one’s birth, and serve to show one’s ‘life cycle.’ Using my own natal chart that Ninian made for me in a previous private session as a visual reference, she explains the significance of each of the twelve ‘houses’ of the chart, and offers up some insights as to what these mean when combined with possible planets that reside in the house. She also covers some of the most often used terms when explaining a natal chart, such as ‘rulers,’ ‘Saturn return,’ ‘north and south nodes,’ and ‘Chiron.’
Ninian also talks about astrology as a form of divination, but something that still offers people the choice or free will to change more undesirable aspects, or to face challenges that appear in the chart.
